We provide the highest quality of Ugandan Arabica coffee while creating a positive impact on biodiversity and uplifting our Ugandan community.
Since its inception in 2016, CARICO has worked holistically with communities in Mount Elgon to develop resilient learning, supporting cooperatives through training and provision/loan of processing materials; guiding the set up of cooperatives; pre-purchasing processing material for eventual joint ownership; supporting schools in farming communities by building pumps for clean water; donating of quality coffee seedlings to rebuild stock and other initiatives. In 2019, three Mount Elgon coffees were blind-tasted by a qualified Q-Grader in Europe and all scored specialty status.
Carico works towards making a real difference in the lives of the small-scale farmers who grow and process our coffee. Smallholdings have a lower carbon footprint than conventional methods – yet still produce excellent coffee. Our vision is to produce the finest coffee and sell it around the world and reinvest in the communities which grow the crops. We aim to do this by providing fair trade and investing in community development.
We want to build a fruitful partnership with you. Together we can design the flavor profiles for roasting our specialty coffees, exchange knowledge and support each other. Our very own Q grader can provide you with a lot of insights on the quality, roasting recommendations or technical advice. We ensure a consistent supply of specialty coffees by keeping a very high standard on the quality, but also on the integrity of everyone involved by making ethical and environment-friendly choices.
Number of bags available upon request.
Mount Elgon National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest together have 142 species on the The International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species (IUCN) Red List. The list is the world’s most comprehensive source on the global conservation status of animal, fungi and plant species which are indicators of our planet’s biodiversity, and therefore, its health.
Organic certification and consumer behavior changes are often offered as solutions to support more sustainable livelihoods. However, for remote farming communities located at high altitudes, organic certification can add significant production effort and compliance cost. These costs can ultimately increase the carbon footprint of their farming. Meanwhile, lack of information about meaningful actions and the separation of roles along global value chains has led to consumers wanting to make a difference, but being unable to contribute towards change.
Carico Global is a newly founded partnership of Quintessence Of Culture (Q.O.C.) – a Specialty Coffee Partnership together with Carico Café Uganda – is developing new ways to approach the international marketplace. Furthering the social impact by capturing the essential humanity and vulnerability of the Farmers and Cooperatives we support.
The launch of Carico Global Coffee comes when the coffee industry globally is changing as more consumers are demanding fully traceable coffees. The idea is to give our customers an appreciation of what happens in the Mountains of Uganda to the Global Carico Family.
